Heroes & Legends featuring the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame® presented by Boeing

Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex’s newest attraction! Through engaging storytelling, guests embark on an awe-inspiring journey that begins with an immersive exhibit designed to spark thought and discussion about how society defines a hero. Then, through cutting-edge technology, interactive elements and engaging exhibits, visitors are introduced to the heroes of the NASA space program: the pioneers who worked together to make space exploration possible. Positioned just inside the entrance, the attraction sets the stage for a richer park experience by providing the emotional background and context for space exploration and the legendary men and women who pioneered our journey into space.

Space Shuttle Atlantis

The world’s most comprehensive attraction devoted to the space shuttle, Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex’s Space Shuttle Atlantis brings you nose-to-nose with Atlantis as only astronauts have seen her before – with payload bay doors open as if she were floating in space. More than 60 interactive, touch-screen experiences and high-tech simulators invite you to “be the astronaut,” bringing to life the people, passion and patriotism behind NASA’s 30-year Space Shuttle Program, as well as the complexity of the engineering marvel that launched the Hubble Space Telescope and built the International Space Station (ISS). Take a virtual spacewalk; practice docking to the ISS; create sonic booms and glide down the Re-entry Slide; and take the helm at the shuttle cockpit. Celebrate the lives of the fallen heroes of STS-51L/Challenger and STS-107/Columbia at a stirring memorial exhibit, Forever Remembered.

Shuttle Launch Experience

Don’t miss Shuttle Launch Experience, the ride veteran NASA astronauts call the next best thing to an actual space shuttle launch. Feel the G-forces push you back into your seat as you travel at simulated speeds up to 17,500 miles per hour and experience a brief sensation of weightlessness before the payload bay doors open, revealing a stunning view of Earth (located inside Space Shuttle Atlantis).

Kennedy Space Center Bus Tour featuring the Apollo/Saturn V Center

Explore the past, present and future of manned space flight on your Kennedy Space Center Bus Tour. See NASA’s historical and working spaceflight areas including the iconic Vehicle Assembly Building and Launch Pad 39B as it is transformed for future rocket flights, then disembark to experience the excitement of the Apollo/Saturn V Center. Here, you’re invited into the “firing room” for a startlingly real reenactment of the launch of Apollo 8 on Dec. 21, 1968 – the first mission to orbit the moon. You’ll get to walk beneath a real Saturn V moon rocket and marvel at its incredible size. At 363 feet long, it’s 60 feet taller than the Statue of Liberty! Touch a real moon rock and explore a wealth of Apollo artifacts at the Apollo Treasures Gallery, including Alan Shepard’s Kitty Hawk capsule and his spacesuit from Apollo 14, still bathed in moon dust. Also located here is The Apollo 1 Tribute, Ad Astra Per Aspera - A Rough Road Leads to the Stars. This tribute shares with everyone mementos of the fallen Apollo 1 astronauts’ lives and reminds us of their sacrifice. Generations of people around the world will learn who these brave astronauts were and how their legacies live on through the Apollo successes and beyond. Don’t miss the presentation inside the Lunar Theater, where a blend of 3D theatrical elements, real NASA video and audio, and multimedia imagery come together to recreate the dramatic events leading up to America’s first moon landing. While you’re there, grab lunch or a snack at the Moon Rock Cafe.

Journey To Mars: Explorers Wanted

Visit Journey To Mars: Explorers Wanted, the nation’s most comprehensive permanent Mars attraction, featuring the Explorers Wanted live show with real-time updates on NASA’s Mars-bound vehicle, the Space Launch System and the Orion capsule. Discover how past space programs have paved the way to the Red Planet and what challenges lie ahead for humans traveling in deep space. Explore exciting simulators and displays, including a full-size Orion heat shield and a host of Mars rovers.
