Butler Chain of Lakes

The Butler Chains of Lakes (4,927 acres) are all very similar in that they are relatively deep for Florida lakes (20 – 40 foot holes), have abundant submerge vegetation and good largemouth bass fisheries. This 4,720-acre chain is made up of 11 interconnected lakes. Boat access is available only at one county ramp (Lake Isleworth just south of Windermere) and public bank access is almost non-existent. Orange County charges a launch fee at the Lake Isleworth ramp and the ramp is not open after dark.

Many celebrities have called the Butler Chain of Lakes their home. Such people include the likes of Shaquille O’Neal, Ken Griffey Jr. and Tiger Woods, just to name a few sports stars. It is nice place to fish where you can catch big numbers of bass with an occasional big fish, though just being on this Chain for the day is worth the trip.

Expect to see schooling fish almost twelve months out of the year. These schooling fish sometime average 3 – 5 pounds, but in most cases are smaller. Carolina-rigging in depths of 8 – 30 feet is a great producer all year. If you enjoy topwater, this is where you’ll want to be if you’re looking for some fun.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What should we bring/wear? -- Bring any medications, polarized fishing glasses are preferred, but sunglasses are fine. Other suggestions include a hat, both a long and short sleeve shirt and rain gear if you prefer. Deck shoes, tennis shoes or sandals are the most comfortable footwear. Sunscreen in most cases is also needed, because of sensitive skins we suggest you bring your own. You will need to bring along your fishing license. Bring your favorite drink and a snack. Yes, what's a fishing trip without a cold beer! It is permitted. All boats have built-in coolers filled with ice. Sorry, you are not allowed to bring your own cooler aboard the boat.

How many people can there be on this fishing trip? -- The preferred and most comfortable is 1 or 2 persons, although 3 or 4 people per boat are often taken.  The maximum is 4 persons per boat.  The limits are set by the US Coast Guard.

Can I bring my kids? -- Absolutely, freshwater fishing is perfect for kids. The action is consistent, the fish are plentiful. There are alligators, birds, snakes, and other native species that hang around the boats to keep them interested. Restroom facilities are usually close by most fishing areas. We have no problem taking restroom breaks when needed. We enjoy working with children and instructing them on various fishing techniques, so all family members are welcome. Children of all ages are welcome with a maximum of three children per boat.

Do I need any fishing experience? -- While a full day trip is primarily for experienced anglers, your guides have all the experience that is needed. They love teaching others about the sport and coaching you through it all. People may have never fished a day in their lives, but leave with a new understanding and an unforgettable experience.

What about the weather? -- In the summer it is hot and it can rain almost any day, but mostly in the afternoon. Be prepared. Put sunscreen on first thing in the morning and bring rain gear if you have it. If not, the guides usually do. Watch the weather and be assured it is cooler on the water than land.

Is it rough out there? Will I get sea sick? -- No, you will never have to worry about sea sickness on this trip.

Does the guide fish? -- No, unless you specifically request it. Their job is to put you on the fish and give you the information you need to hook, fight and land your trophy fish. They've have done these thousands of times and know were the fish are, so there's no need for them to "test fish to locate them" on YOUR time!
